Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Tyrese Rice scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Boston College Eagles to a 74-71 overtime victory over the upstart Miami Hurricanes in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
John Oates scored 14 points for fourth-seeded BC (19-10). Jared Dudley scored 12 points for the Eagles, who advance to play top-seeded North Carolina Saturday for a spot in Sunday's championship game.
Twelfth-seeded Miami (12-19) was led by Jack McClinton with 16 points, and Anthony Harris scored 15 points for the 'Canes. Jimmy Graham finished with 12 points for Miami, which fell just short in it's bid for a second straight upset. Miami knocked off fifth-seeded Maryland, 67-62, on Wednesday.
Trailing 72-71, McClinton lofted a wild shot with 4.1 seconds that bounced off the side of the backboard and out of bounds. After two Rice free throws, the 'Canes could not get a shot off in time, and the Eagles advanced.
A Dudley three-point play with 1:51 left had put BC up 72-71.
BC trailed by 14 points early in the second half, but came charging back, closing with a 16-6 run. A Rice three with 27.7 seconds left tied the game at 64, and Harris' shot was well off for Miami in the final seconds, sending the game to overtime.
Miami pulled away late in the first half, closing with a 14-6 run. Harris scored five points in the last minute, including a three at the buzzer that sent the 'Canes into the break holding a 38-28 lead.
