Georgetown is headed to Atlanta.
It took overtime, but the Hoyas will continue their season, after their 96-84 win over North Carolina. The Big East Tournament champion dominated the overtime period, as they out-scored the Heels 15-3 in the extra session, while Carolina shot 0-9 from the field.
Jonathan Wallace hit a 3-pointer with 35 seconds remaining in regulation to cap a late 16-6 Hoya run that extended Georgetown's season. Then, with the score tied at 81, freshman Wayne Ellington had a chance to win it for the Heels, but his three pointer struck iron. Georgetown gathered the rebound and took a timeout, but their own attempt with two seconds left on the clock came up empty.
Georgetown had foul trouble in the first half, with Roy Hibbert, Patrick Ewing Jr. and Jessi Sapp all picking up three fouls in the first twenty minutes.
Hansbrough had a double-double on the night, as he led the Tar Heels with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Deon Thompson contributed solid minutes off the bench early, finishing the game with 14 points and 6 boards. Brandon Wright and Hansbrough were named to the All-East Regional team.
Jeff Green, the Big East player of the year and East Regional's most outstanding player, led Georgetown with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Roy Hibbert also had a double-double for the Hoyas, contributing 13 points and 10 rebounds for the regional champion.
