(Toledo, OH) Durham lost the completion of a suspended game 6-4 to Toledo, then routed Toledo 8-0 as Jason Hammel and Tim Corcoran five-hit the Mud Hens.
Hammel (1-0), who received just two runs of support while on the mound in his first two starts, got all he would need in the second. Durham (5-6) put together its biggest inning of the year, scoring seven times to knock out Zach Miner (0-2).
Wes Bankston started the rally with a solo homer, his second, off the scoreboard in left. After Joel Guzman popped out, Raul Casanova and Jorge Velandia walked, and Jeremy Owens singled to load the bases. Elliott Johnson tripled to right-center to clear the bases for a 4-0 advantage. Dustan Mohr singled to left to make the score 5-0, and Chris Richard then doubled to right center to put runners at second and third. Jorge Cantu singled to left center to score both runners to cap the rally and chase Miner.
Hammel cruised from there, allowing five singles, a walk, and a hit batter, while striking out nine. Hammel did not allow a runner past second. Corcoran got the final out after Hammel reached his pitch count. Richard, who hit his league-leading fourth homer in the fourth for the final margin, finished with three hits.
In the suspended contest, Durham battled back but the Bulls were unable to come up with enough to rally from a 4-2 deficit entering play on Sunday. Durham did collect 10 hits, including three by Bankston and Cantu.
The Bulls look for a split of the four-game series on Monday at 6:30.
