Three Toledo pitchers held the Bulls to just six hits as the Mud Hens shut out Durham 6-0 to take three of four in the series.
Durham never got a runner past second base against the trio of Virgil Vasquez (1-2), Tim Byrdak and Jason Karnuth. Meanwhile, Toledo took advantage of a rare Bulls miscue to take the lead in the second.
Dustan Mohr dropped Mike Hessman's deep fly to center to start the second inning for a two-base error. Chris Maples hit a ground single to left, and Brent Clevlen followed with a broken-bat RBI single to left for a 1-0 lead. Dane Sardinha followed two batters later with a suicide squeeze for a 2-0 advantage.
The Mud Hens then took advantage of three consecutive J.P. Howell (0-2) walks to take a 4-0 lead in the third. Howell then settled down, but gave up a two-out walk in the sixth, and was lifted after a Sardinha bloop single. Toledo then collected back-to-back RBI singles against Seth McClung for the final 6-0 margin.
Shawn Riggans collected three of Durham's six hits, collecting two doubles. The Bulls, now 5-7, head to Columbus to take on the Clippers on Tuesday.
