Raleigh, N.C. — The tragedy at Virginia Tech is being felt on college campuses here in the Triangle. On Tuesday night, hundreds of students and faculty gathered at North Carolina State University for a candlelight vigil.
With messages of hope and ribbons of remembrance, nearly 1,000 students and faculty gathered together at Harris Field to pay respects to the victims and survivors of Monday’s massacre.
"We kind of need to do something, and this right here kind of brings us together," said N.C. State Student Body President Bobbie Mills.
"I think it just makes you realize what can happen,” Mills said.
"I'm completely shocked and kind of afraid,” said student Carey Stewart. “It could happen here You never know."
Chancellor James Oblinger reminded students to be careful and vigilant, but not to give into fear and dread that what happened in Blacksburg could happen in Raleigh.
“We light our candles in a show of unity, a show of strength, a show of hope," he said.
