Columbus, Ohio — Major League veteran Tony Batista went 3-for-4 and fell a single short of the cycle as Columbus edged Durham, 5-4, on Thursday night at Cooper Stadium.
Batista got the scoring started with an RBI double in the first inning. He tripled in the third and belted a solo homer, his first of the season, in the fifth to put the Clippers (4-9) on top, 5-0.
Brandon Watson and Juan Brito each contributed two hits of the Clippers' 10 hits.
Tim Redding (1-2) earned his first win by limiting the Bulls to three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one. Jermaine Van Buren allowed a run in 1 1/3 innings but notched his first save.
Durham starter Mitch Talbot (1-2) took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits in 4 2/3 frames. He walked four and fanned five.
Shawn Riggans went 2-for-3 with a solo homer for the Bulls (6-9). Jorge Velandia and Matt Maniscalco also had two hits apiece.
