Raleigh, N.C. — Wolfpack Sports Marketing and Capitol Broadcasting Co. have reached an agreement for WRAL-FM to broadcast North Carolina State University football and basketball games over the next decade.
“Our relationship with N.C. State has been a great one over the years, and we are extremely excited about expanding our affiliation with the university through this radio broadcast agreement,” Capitol Broadcasting President and Chief Executive Jim Goodmon said in a statement.
WRAL-FM, also known as Mix 101.5, is a 100,000-watt station that ranks among the most popular in the Triangle and surrounding areas.
“The listenership of 101.5 WRAL-FM is consistent with the composition of our Wolfpack fan and alumni bases. Mix 101.5 WRAL-FM’s programming is also conducive to the family atmosphere we strive for at N.C. State events,” said Chris Alston, director of marketing and promotions for Wolfpack Sports Marketing.
Another Capitol Broadcasting station, WCMC-FM, will carry the weekly Tom O’Brien and Sidney Lowe coach’s call-in shows on Monday nights. The Wolfpack Sports Network’s coverage of the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament will also be carried on WCMC-FM, with the exception of N.C. State games broadcast on WRAL FM.
The deal marks the end of the school's 42-year affiliation with WPTF-AM, a 50,000-watt station that can be heard throughout the Southeast.
“We are proud of the growth that the Wolfpack nation has enjoyed throughout its partnership with 680 WPTF and Curtis Media," N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler said. "They were with us during many of the great moments in Wolfpack history. Now, CBC’s long-term commitment to N.C. State provides us with the strategic advantage we need to develop the great moments that will make up the future of Wolfpack athletics.”
