Shawn Riggans' two-run home run in the sixth inning gave the Bulls a lead they wouldn't relinquish as Durham won it's third straight game, 3-2 over the Norfolk Tides on Wednesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Trailing 1-0, Bulls batting leader Justin Ruggiano hit a one-out double to centerfield before Riggans earned himself and a lucky fan a free steak from the Bull City Steakhouse with a towering homer off the Famous Snorting Bull in left field. It was the first time a player from the home team had hit the Bull this season. The Bulls added an insurance run in the seventh inning on back-to-back, two-out doubles by Josh Johnson and Jorge Velandia.
Bulls starter Andy Sonnanstine (4-2) earned the win pitching into the eighth inning allowing just five hits and two runs while striking out five. Scott Dohmann pitched a scoreless ninth with a hit and two strikeouts to earn his second save of the season. All three of the Bulls runs came off of Tides starter Garrett Olson (0-4), who pitched seven innings and allowed just six hits while striking out nine.
The Bulls will try to sweep the series with the Tides on Thursday night at 7 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
