N.C. State Basketball Coaches Receive Contract Extensions

North Carolina State's Sidney Lowe received a one-year extension making him the Wolfpack men's coach through 2013.

Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina State awarded its men's and women's basketball coaches one-year contract extensions Monday.

Sidney Lowe received a one-year extension making him the Wolfpack men's coach through 2013. The contract he signed last June pays him an annual base salary of $210,000, according to the university. The former Wolfpack point guard led the team to the NIT quarterfinals, and Lowe became the fourth coach in school history to win 20 games in his first season.

Women's coach Kay Yow, who missed 16 games to fight stage-four breast cancer, had her contract extended through the 2011-12 season. The university said the contract she signed in 1998 pays her $212,000 annually.

The Hall of Fame coach returned in late January and led North Carolina State to an emotion-filled late-season run to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. The Wolfpack then reached the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament berth for the first time since 2001.

Both coaches this season enjoyed landmark victories over North Carolina State's biggest rivals, beating North Carolina in the regular season before eliminating Duke from their respective ACC tournaments.

I love the rivalary with State and NC it's great!
