U.S. Open Goes to Pinehurst in 2014

The U.S. Golf Association announced Wednesday that the 2014 U.S. Open will be played at Pinehurst No. 2, marking the third time in 15 years the course will host the event.

The announcement came on the eve of the 2008 U.S. Open, played at the Oakmont Country Club course outside of Pittsburgh.

Pinehurst waited 99 years to host its first U.S. Open in 1999. But the success of that event, won by the late Payne Stewart, and a return trip in 2005, which was won by Michael Campbell, has made Pinehurst a growing favorite among USGA officials.

Next year, Pinehurst Resort will host the U.S. Amateur, which is serving as a precursor for the awarding of a U.S. Open.

The Olympic Club in San Francisco will host this year's U.S. Amateur and will host the U.S. Open in 2012. Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., will host the 2009 U.S. Amateur and then the U.S. Open two years later.

Although the USGA has no formal rotation of courses that host the U.S. Open, unlike the Royal and Ancient Golf Club does with the British Open, a third national championship in such a short span validates the association's success with Pinehurst. No other course has hosted three U.S. Opens in a shorter span of time.

The 2014 date was the earliest available date on the U.S. Open calendar.

"Use the reveunue to better educate our kids"....wow! What a novel idea! Can we use the revenue from rock concerts, NASCAR races, hockey, Bobcats games, Panthers' games, Mudcats' games, and Bulls' games too? In fact, let's reallocate ALL of our resources to "better educate our kids". Ok..enough of my sarcasm. I love golf ~ when do the tickets go on sale?

Happy Gilmore by far

Shooter McGavin or Happy Gilmore?

Best golfer of all time?

Funny! Just because some love golf doesn't mean everyone does. I have stepped foot on a course and still prefer NASCAR, or Hockey, or NBA, or anytning with a little action.
