Grambling's Broadway Visits Duke

Grambling State coach Rod Broadway, the former head coach at N.C. Central, visited Duke on Tuesday as the Blue Devils continued their search for a new coach, WRAL confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Broadway, who played at North Carolina, had a highly successful run at NCCU before leaving after the 2006 season for Grambling. Grambling is 8-3.

Broadway, in an interview before Duke fired Ted Roof, called the Triangle "home" but was reluctant to speak specifically about the job at that time.

Duke's top target is Navy coach Paul Johnson, although his name has also been linked with the jobs at SMU and Georgia Tech. The Dallas Morning News reported, according to a source, that Johnson visited that school on Tuesday.

Johnson has said he is happy at Navy but will listen to other schools. His agent, Jack Reale, told WRAL.com's David Glenn: "He has a great job at Navy, and he's very well-compensated. He's very well-regarded in college football, so he gets interest from other schools every year."

Two sources indicated Tuesday that Johnson is at the top of Duke's list. One name that has not surfaced but that could draw interest from Duke is Bobby Johnson of Vanderbilt.  Johnson has made Vanderbilt competitive in the ultra-tough SEC and is a former Clemson player and assistant coach. He also had a successful run at Furman before moving to Vanderbilt.

"wellunceducated - Unless Coach Broadway is schizophrenic, the word is 'alumnus.'"

LOL

If Carolina alumni are so great, then explain why Matt Doherty was fired, and why Todd Turner (Carolina grad who was, unbelievably, the AD at State during the Les Robinson years, which probably explains a lot...) failed at his job in Raleigh?

FE-Broadway did coach at CAROLINA ,he was fired with other coaches, Turner could not be the AD at CAROLINA since the great John Swofford was there,( now the ACC Commisioner)and Bobby Purnell could not be the RAMS Club president because John Montgromery was and currently is at CAROLINA (a CAROLINA graduate also) anything else you need to know!

wellunceducated - Unless Coach Broadway is schizophrenic, the word is "alumnus."

As for all of those unc alumni going ELSEWHERE, one might perhaps question why they did not return to their own alma mater instead?

Broadway- A CAROLINA ALUMNI! Good chice dook, if he accepts the lousy job. Ex AD at state, Turner, was a CAROLINA graduate, Bobby Purnell wolfpack club president is a CAROLINA graduate, it takes a CAROLINA graduate to help you guys make it! GO HEELS!

that was a dumb comment robert s.
