Mike MacIntyre, who coached with new Duke coach David Cutcliffe at Mississippi, will be the Blue Devils' defensive coordinator.

MacIntyre’s appointment is the first staff transaction made by Cutcliffe, who was named head coach December 15.

"I’ve had the good fortune to have worked with Mike before," said Cutcliffe. "He is an outstanding person and an outstanding coach. His experience expands through college football as well as the NFL. He is a tremendous recruiter who will be a great addition to Duke University."

MacIntyre served on Cutcliffe’s staff at Ole Miss from 1999-02, helping the Rebels to a record of 29-19 with appearances in the Independence Bowl (1999 and 2002) and Music City Bowl (2000). MacIntyre coached the 1999 and 2000 seasons with the Ole Miss wide receivers before working with the secondary in his final two years.

"I’m looking forward to coming back to work with David," MacIntyre said. "He is a great coach and a great man. His direction of Duke football will allow the young men in our program to grow as both people and as football players. It’s fun to recruit people to come play for Coach Cutcliffe."

MacIntyre coached the New York Jets defensive backs in 2007. He spent four seasons (2003-06) as an assistant coach under Bill Parcells with the Dallas Cowboys, working with the defensive secondary.

A 1989 graduate of Georgia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in business management, MacIntyre played two seasons (1987-88) at free safety and punt returner for the Yellow Jackets under head coach Bobby Ross. Prior to attending Georgia Tech, MacIntyre played two years at Vanderbilt (1984-85) under his father, George, who served as the head coach of the Commodores from 1979-85. He went on to earn a master’s degree in education with an emphasis on sports management from Georgia in 1991.

Born March 14, 1965, in Miami, Fla., MacIntyre and his wife, Trisha, have three children, Jennifer, Jay Michael and Jonston.

yes, because UNC is so awesome right?

TLGLASS....Please stop dreaming about Duke football!

You have to believe that Duke knew the type of Assistant Coaches that Cutcliffe had in mind. Sounds like a great start to building a quality staff. Cutcliffe will do about as well as any coach could do at Duke.

can't wait til next year, keep making the smart comments though..we shall see.
