Former North Carolina All-America Ivory Latta will have her jersey retired at halftime of Saturday's ACC game against Georgia Tech, the school announced Thursday.
Latta, the 2006 National Player of the Year, will become just the second player in program history to have her jersey retired, joining current assistant coach Charlotte Smith.
Latta finished with 2,285 points, the most in school history. She also finished with 345 career three-pointers, the most in ACC history. Latta was a three-time All-America performer as well as a consensus first-teamer in 2006 and 2007. She was named National Player of the Year, the criterion for jersey retirement, by ESPN.com, Basketball Times, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Gballmag.com in 2006.
She will also receive the Patterson Medal on Saturday. The medal, given since 1924, is presented each year to Carolina seniors who have demonstrated excellence in athletics throughout his and her college career. The award is based on athletic accomplishment, with sportsmanship, leadership and general conduct as major considerations.
