Status of Pack's Fells, Horner Still Uncertain
Jan 11, 2008
N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe said on Friday that the likelihood of junior guard Courtney Fells or sophomore forward Dennis Horner suiting up for the Pack’s ACC opener versus rival and top-ranked North Carolina this Saturday was still unknown.
“[Fells] was walking on it yesterday. He was feeling a little better today, we’ll have to see how much he can do in practice,” Lowe said. “It’s really going to be day-to-day. Dennis, probably the same thing, we’ll have to wait and see with him as well.”
While both players’ availability will likely come down to game-time decisions, Lowe also said that Horner, who is suffering from a sprained left ankle, was further along in his recovery than Fells, who sprained his right ankle in a game Wednesday night.
In determining whether either will play will be depend upon the player and the medical staff, according to Lowe.
“I leave that up to the player and Doc really, because different players have different tolerance levels in what they can handle,” Lowe said. “Certainly I don’t want anyone out there that’s hurt, but I would hate to tell a player not to play when he’s dying to play and think he can do something.”
Fells and Horner are both wing players, so should the duo be sitting on the sidelines in street clothes it’s hard to tell who would make the start.
Point guards Marques Johnson and Javi Gonzalez have never been on the court at the same time, and Lowe said on Wednesday that he will refrain from playing the huge lineup of J.J. Hickson, Ben McCauley and Brandon Costner at the 5, 4 and 3-spots.
Lowe said he hadn’t decided who would be the emergency starter if it the situation calls for someone besides Fells and Horner.
“That’s something we’re looking at because we’re not only looking at the guy that’s starting but we’re also looking at who we’ll have coming off the bench, what’s a better combination for us,” Lowe said. “Do we go with a guy that might be able to make more shots or a guy who’s more defensive for us? We’re still talking about that.”

Well, with such a unique brand of UNC-CH wit, I don't see how anybody could have picked up on the sarcasm. So verrrrrry clever!

KD1229, you just proved the point of a poster on the other State/Carolina thread. Carolina fans are the most obnoxious bunch there ever was.
The difference is State fans would not say "WHO?" about one of a fellow ACC team's starters. Total disrespect.
I want State to win tomorrow so bad I can almost taste it. Just to stick it to fans like you!!!
