Hurricanes Activate Wesley From IR

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has activated defenseman Glen Wesley from injured reserve. Wesley will be available to play in the Hurricanes' game at Toronto on Tuesday.

The Hurricanes placed Wesley, 39, on injured reserve on Jan. 12, retroactive to Jan. 5, due to illness. The Red Deer, Alb., native had played in all 44 of the Hurricanes' games prior to missing the game at Boston on Jan. 8. Wesley (6'1", 207 lbs.) has recorded a goal and two assists (3 points) this season, while averaging 15:57 in ice time. He is in his 20th NHL season and ranks seventh on the NHL's all-time games-played list for defenseman having played in 1,423 regular-season games with Boston, Toronto and the Hurricanes franchise since entering the NHL in 1987. The Bruins selected Wesley in the first round, third overall, in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft.
