Canes Trade Adams to Blackhawks
Jan 17, 2008
Raleigh, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday traded right wing Craig Adams to the Chicago Blackhawks for future considerations.
Adams, 30, has scored two goals and three assists for 5 points in 40 games this season, averaging 9:47 of ice time per game.
The Calgary, Alberta native was drafted in the ninth round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Hartford Whalers. Adams has played in 427 career NHL games, all with Carolina, which relocated from Hartford in 1997. He ranks third in games played with the Hurricanes since the team moved to North Carolina, ranking behind only Glen Wesley and Rod Brind'Amour.
During his career, Adams has scored 33 goals and 44 assists for 77 points.

It's mostly contractual, between both the team(s) and the player. Since they didn't leak which round I would guesss the Canes will be allowed to pick from future draft picks or even possibly from the Blackhawks minor league squad. Usually players are safe if they are considered activeated by a team and thus unable to be picked up freely this way. this is my speculation. But to hazard a guess, we probably got a 3rd round pick and possible 5th or lower pick as well for adams. Face it, he really hasn't produced that much for the team over all. I like his work ethic and grit, but we need some power that comes with talent for scoring ro producing chances that score.
What was the point if we didn't get anyone back from them?
What do the Canes get for future considerations? Is this a move to create some room in the salary cap to bring in a high-priced d-man who also can score goals?
Of course they send some grit/muscle away, just what we don't need.
Hope Samsonov gets knocked out soon with a nice elbow or check from behind.
