Former North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith has been recovering  from complications arising from knee replacement surgery.

According to UNC spokesman Matt Bowers, Smith is now out of the hospital. Bowers said that Smith has been in and out of his office this week. In addition, the Hall of Fame coach and his wife, Linnea, accompanied the current team and coach Roy Williams during a tour of the new Carolina Basketball Museum that has not yet opened to the public.

Bowers said that the Smiths are trying to keep the matter as private as possible. Smith is 76 years old and turns 77 in February.

Smith had knee replacement surgery Dec. 3.
