The University of North Carolina will open a new basketball museum, likely next week, in a new facility next to the Smith Center.
One floor of the new Ernie Williamson Athletics Center will house memorabilia and interactive features on the history of Carolina basketball, UNC spokesman Steve Kirschner said Monday.
The Tar Heels had hoped to open the museum sooner, but are now targeting next week to open. An opening date should be announced Tuesday.
The museum will include UNC jerseys and memorabilia, much of it donated by coach Dean Smith.
A private museum on Carolina basketball, the Blue Heaven Basketball Museum, had previously been located off campus before closing.
