1986: UNC Opens Smith Center With Victory

Carolina was No. 1 and Duke No. 3 when teams opened the $34 million Smith Center on Jan. 18, 1986. The Heels won 95-92, holding off a late Devils rally, but Duke's Mark Alarie scored the first basket in the arena.
