North Carolina’s Ty Lawson remains doubtful to play Wednesday against Duke because of an ankle sprain suffered Sunday in the overtime victory at Florida State.
“He’s not going to practice today. We’ll look at it tomorrow,” UNC coach Roy Williams said Monday.
“I don’t feel real good about him playing. We’ll have to wait and see.”
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski didn’t want to speculate on Lawson’s status Monday, saying, “I’m not going to go into him if he’s not able to play. He’s such a competitor, it’d be hard to keep him out of that game. And hopefully he will be able to play.
“If he did not play they would not change their style and they have senior point guard [Quentin Thomas] who would take his place. They just wouldn’t have a backup for him.”
If Lawson does not play, Carolina would be without both of its top point guards – Lawson and Bobby Frasor – for the Duke game. Frasor is out for the season with an ACL injury.
The teams meet Wednesday night at 9 p.m. in the Smith Center.
