Williams Says Lawson Unlikely to Play Against Duke
By Gregg Found Feb 5, 2008
Ty Lawson was on crutches Tuesday morning at the Smith Center, UNC coach Roy Williams said, and it is doubtful Lawson will play Wednesday night at 9 p.m. against Duke.
“I think it’s awfully difficult to be on crutches one day and play against Duke the next day,” Williams said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference.
Williams did note, however, that Lawson can be a prankster at times, and quipped, “Who knows with Tywon, he could have been skipping rope all the way down here."
Lawson sprained his ankle Sunday night at Florida State. After the game, he said it was unlikely he would play against Duke.
Carolina is already without backup point guard Bobby Frasor, who is out with a torn ACL. If Lawson doesn’t play, look for senior guard Quentin Thomas to play extended minutes at point guard.

Thank you billygoat. The point that dookblue obviously cannot understand is that Ty Lawson is not so much relied on for his offense, but more for his ability to change the way an opposing defense has to play a team. Who cares that Dook has more balanced scoring? The fact remains that with Lawson, Dook would have NO ANSWER at the PG position which would only bolster Hansbrough's numbers. And true about Frasor. If he were playing, I would feel much better about Carolina's chances tonight. And quit saying Zoubek was a starter dookblue, because he was not. And he won't be any time soon. Don't waste your time with the "dook is deeper" argument. I've had enough of your tom-foolery!
Yes, the Heels are not as deep as Duke's bench. The Heels have 3 McDonald All Americans to Dukes 10. Hats off to Coach Kommercial and his recruiting. However, the Heels keep losing guys early for the NBA!!!
Go Heels!!
dukeblue....i thought you were going to give me some stats since you gave me everybody's high scoring games. especially since duke is so balanced
I think Lawson is going to play tomorrow. All this coverage about him not being able to play is just to hype up the media, the fans, and Duke. Roy said that he is "doubtful" Lawson will play and that Lawson is a prankster. If Lawson was not playing, I think at this point he would just come out and say it.
"TBK...gotta go...good luck tonight with VT...Heh heh heh!!!"
Thanks, even coming from you, I'll take it. State can use all the help we can get! LOL
