Raleigh, N.C. — North Carolina crushed N.C. State for the second time this season Wednesday, following a torrid game by Tyler Hansbrough to a 84-70 victory at the RBC Center.
Carolina beat State 93-62 in Chapel Hill on Jan. 12. Wednesday's win marked the fourth time in five years that UNC has swept the series with State.
Carolina is now 25-2 overall and 10-2 in ACC play. State suffered another blow to its fading NCAA hopes and is now 15-11 and 4-8. Teams without winning records in ACC play rarely make the NCAA Tournament.
State's problems on defense continued Wednesday and were a major reason the Pack could not reverse its struggles against Carolina.
Pack coach Sidney Lowe again wore his red blazer, and the Wolfpack students rose in a roar whenever State made a run. But State continuously allowed Carolina to easy baskets, whether on transition dunks on on crisp passing that often led to Hansbrough getting the ball.
With several minutes left in the game, the RBC Center was emptying rapidly as Carolina continued to pour on points.
