BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — DURHAM, N.C. - Matt Danowski, Zack Greer, Tony McDevitt and Nick O’Hara were chosen today by the selection committee for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy watch list. The players were nominated by coaches across all three divisions and are early season hopefuls for the 2008 Tewaaraton Trophy sponsored by Warrior.
Danowski, the 2007 Tewaaraton Trophy winner, netted two goals and dished out five assists in second-ranked Duke’s season-opening victory over then 15th-ranked Bucknell on Feb. 16 to begin the 2008 campaign. With seven total points, Danowski pushed his career total to 263 on 131 goals and 132 assists. On Saturday, he passed former Syracuse standout Tom Marechek (258) for 14th place on the NCAA's career scoring list and the Farmingdale, N.Y., native also moved into 23rd place on the NCAA all-time assist list, passing Virginia's Jay Connor, Navy's Paul Basile (129) and Syracuse's Casey Powell (129).
Danowski has registered at least one point in 43 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the nation.
Greer received ACC Player of the Week accolades following a four-goal, two-assist outing versus the Bison. Greer’s four goals increased his career total to 145 and placed him in a tie for 25th with Paul Donohue of Marist on the NCAA's career listing.
McDevitt and O’Hara were part of a defense that allowed just four goals against Bucknells. McDevitt, secured two ground balls during the contest, while O’Hara tallied five.
Duke will return to the field Saturday, Feb. 23, as the Blue Devils host Vermont at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.
