Fayetteville, N.C. — Fayetteville Pine Forest has advanced by forfeit to the second round of the 4-A East Regional boys basketball tournament after Northern Durham has forfeited its wins.
The Trojans were scheduled to travel to Northern on Tuesday for a first-round sectional playoff game. But Durham schools athletics director Larry McDonald said Northern will forfeit all of its wins this season for using an ineligible player.
McDonald said an attendance issue led to the decision. He said the forfeits have already been reported to the N.C. High School Athletic Association.
Since the state playoff bracket has already been set, association spokesman Rick Strunk says a team will not be put into the bracket to replace Northern Durham, thus giving Pine Forest a win by forfeit.
