Charlotte, N.C. — Senior guard Kelley Bural led four double-figure scorers with15 points for Saint Augustine’s, but Fayetteville State erased an early 17-point deficit and pulled away 86-76 in a CIAA Tournament quarterfinal game on Tuesday at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
The fifth-seeded Lady Broncos (17-11) advanced to Friday’s semifinals while the season ended for the fourth-seeded Lady Falcons (18-10). The Lady Falcons, picked to finish last in the Western Division in the preseason, improved on last season’s 6-22 record. The 18 wins were the most since the Lady Falcons won 20 games in the 1997-98 season.
Freshmen Whitney Griffis and Chanel Kinard both added 14 points while freshman Crystal McCaffity (scored 11 points for the Lady Falcons.
Freshman Allison Sikes, the CIAA women’s rookie of the year, finished with 5 points, 8 rebounds and a game-high 7 steals. Griffis also had 8 rebounds as the Lady Falcons won the rebounding battle 47-43.
