Coming Tuesday: WRAL's Special Look at 1983
By Dane Huffman Feb 27, 2008
It’s the team you thought you knew.
In 1983, N.C. State made a miraculous run to the national basketball championship. Sports fans remember the missed free throws, the Lorenzo Charles dunk, Coach Jim Valvano running for a hug.
It’s a story so familiar you almost think you remember it all.
But wait until Tuesday.
Coming Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m., WRAL will air “The Miracle of the Cardiac Pack,” a half-hour special on that extraordinary season.
WRAL had stunning access to that team, and the coaches and players come alive in video that still pulsates decades later.
You’ll hear the quips of the youthful Valvano and see clips that highlight the personalities of this team. And you’ll hear from the players who, decades later, remember all that happened in that astonishing run.
Join us Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. as we welcome in the month of March with a look at the team that defined March Madness.
We know you’ll enjoy it.

Can't wait!
Man, you people, go pour your frustrations on something that really needs fixing.
Maybe this is just a little something for the beginning of the run-up that's just intended to get some excitement brewing??? To show what members of the ACC are capable, and something to be proud, of? You act like this is going to be the last newscast ever. Take a breath already.
Good story WRAL! I was in jail in 1983 and missed the whole season. Thanks for the re-cap.
What happened in 1983 that is so important to "selling" WRAL to folks? Isn;'t there enough timely and relevant news today? Don't we see Brittney Paris, Pam, Dennis Rodamn) getting out of another car SOMEWHERE?
IT'S 2008 PEOPLE.....For the Love of God and all things HOLY stop talking about 1983!
This is actually really disturbing. There seems to be a story every SINGLE DAY about the 1983 NC State team. Last I checked, other Triangle teams have won the title FIVE times since then. And the need to put a story up that tells us the story will be coming next week -- that's just incomprehensible to me. Seriously, please re-evaluate what is news and PLEASE please please PLEASE let the 1983 story die already!! There have been WAY more stories about this than even Ty Lawson's ankle!
