Charlotte, N.C. — Bowie State, the second seed in the CIAA Men’s Tournament, rolled past Shaw 77-59 Thursday in the quarterfinals at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.
Also Thursday, Johnson C. Smith eliminated St. Augustine’s 72-61.
Shaw concludes its season 5 – 23 overall and 1 - 17 in CIAA play.
Bowie State opened the game with an 18-0 run and led 20-3 as Shaw struggled to make shots. The Bears never could make it a contest from there. Senior forward Damola Obadina and senior guard John Kornegay each scored 11 points for Shaw.
St. Aug’s came into the tournament as the No. 5 seed but couldn’t push past the hometown J.C. Smith. The game was tied at 32-all at halftime, but the Golden Bulls shot 58.3 percent in the second half to pull away.
“The name of the game is basketball and we couldn’t put the ball in the basket,” Falcon head coach Thomas Hargrove said.
Junior forward Robert Shuler finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for Saint Augustine’s.
