ACC Brackets Give N.C. State Reasonable Draw

You knew North Carolina was the No. 1 seed and Duke was No. 2 in this week's ACC Tournament in Charlotte.

But what you might not have known is that even though N.C. State is the 12th, and last, seed, the ACC Tournament bracket isn’t as daunting for the Wolfpack as one might expect.

State plays fifth-seeded Miami on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. If State wins, it would play fourth-seeded Virginia Tech on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

While the Wolfpack has been disappointing so far, those games are winnable for State.

State beat Miami 79-77 in overtime on Jan. 19 in Raleigh. Gavin Grant scored 22 points for N.C. State in that contest, with Brandon Costner contributing 16 and J.J. Hickson and Courtney Fells each 14.

State’s next opponent would be Virginia Tech. N.C. State beat the Hokies 73-63 in Raleigh on Feb. 5. Hickson had 21 points and Courtney Fells 14 in that contest.

UNC, the top seed, plays Friday at noon against the winner of Thursday’s Wake Forest-Florida State game. Duke, seeded second, plays Friday night at 7 p.m. against the Georgia Tech-Virginia winner.

WRAL and 99.9 FM The Fan will have extensive coverage of the tournament, with radio coverage of all games on The Fan and WRAL.com posting live blogs and up-to-date information throughout the event. And of course, WRAL will have highlights and more on the newscasts.

To: Packfn17 Being on the bubble and not going to the party are not even close to the same thing. But, good try.

Didn't NCSU finish 6-10 in the ACC last year? I guess the short run thru the ACC tourney last year gave a desparate fan base some hope. This is 2008, not 1983. Lightening vary rarely strikes twice in the same place.

Pack fans are the greatest....especially the ones who post over at packpride.com. They suffer from an inferiority complex of massive proportions while at the same time exhibiting delusions of grandeur. I love it!! Come on Syd...thats a powerhouse you're heading up over there!!!

Why should we support a team, that has players that look like they could careless about the game. 3forme, maybe you need to stop your whinning, I bet you even liked Herb. Hey State fans let be content with being a doormat, yeah great idea.

ok you pack slammers...i've had enough of this...if you can do better then go over to west raleigh and do it..support your team no matter what and quit whining..all your doing is showing your lack of class..as for the app state person if you think you could even come close to competing in the acc you've been breathing that thin air for way too long..
