Duke athletics director Joe Alleva will interview for the same position at Louisiana State University on Wednesday, the Baton Rouge school has confirmed.

Alleva is one of six candidates LSU is considering.

"He was recommended to us by our search consultants, Parker Executive Search of Atlanta," Jack Weiss, the chair of the search committee and the chancellor of the LSU school of law, wrote in an email to WRAL. "He will interview here in Baton Rouge [Wednesday] along with five other applicants.

"After the interviews, the search committee plans to make its recommendation to Chancellor William Jenkins of those applicants we consider most highly qualified. We anticipate making our recommendation tomorrow at the conclusion of the interviews.

"Chancellor Jenkins will select the new AD with the concurrence of LSU System President John Lombardi and the LSU Board of Supervisors. It is my expectation that the final selection will take place before the end of the week."

The others are LSU Senior Associate Athletic Directors Verge Ausberry and Herb Vincent; Craig Angelos, athletic director at Florida Atlantic; Rob Mullins, deputy athletic director at Kentucky; and Dave Hart Jr., former athletic director at Florida State.

Hart is also a former athletics director at East Carolina.

LSU is looking to replace Skip Bertman, who will retire in June and then serve in a fundraising capacity.

Alleva, in a statement released by Duke, said, "I have been contacted by a representative of Louisiana State University regarding its vacant Athletics Director position and am honored to be considered for such a prestigious position. At this point, the conversations have been limited and exploratory in nature. I plan to meet with LSU officials soon to determine if interest in the position remains mutual."

Alleva’s name had come up in the media when Miami was searching for a new athletics director, but Alleva said through a Duke spokesman he had not been contacted at the time.

Last August, Alleva was re-appointed to his position and praised by Duke chancellor Richard Brodhead.

“Joe is unwaveringly loyal to Duke and to the educational values that undergird all of our programs, including athletics,” Brodhead said in a statement. “These are times of great challenge and change in intercollegiate athletics."

Alleva is also working on a comprehensive strategic plan for Duke athletics that includes ways to upgrade the football program.

Hey all you Duke bashers.... lighten it up. I have some Duke friends who are pulling for the Tar Heels, if for no other reason, they're ACC. Thay have accepted the fact that UNC beat them on senior night and pretty much gotten over it...... it's only a game, afterall.... If your house was on fire and Coach K was passing by, he'd at least call the fire department, not watch and laugh. Geez......

It's always nice to read the DOOK indignity over THe Rat's nickname. Funny you don't have to say WHO the Rat is--and they instantly know. Must be that DOOK education, since all the DOOK posters are, no doubt, proud alums???? A fine school can still have its Rat. (And it's so much fun....)

Good bye, Joe! Don't let the door hit you a&& on the way out.

lol@ahart4duke....if you had to pick an animal that both fit his appearance and demeanor...what would it be?

I wouldn't.

I don't think he will be offered the position due to how he and Brodhead handled the rape allegation. It was ultimately his decision to cancel the remainder of the season for one of the top ranked lacrosse teams in the country, which was shameful.
