Danny Green Declares For NBA Draft, Will Not Hire Agent
Apr 26, 2008
Chapel Hill, N.C. — University of North Carolina forward Danny Green has declared for the NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent.
Green, a junior from North Babylon, N.Y., was Carolina's fourth-leading scorer at 11.5 points per game in 2007-08.
"Danny and his father contacted me in the last 24 hours and indicated they wished to test the waters and enter Danny in the draft," says head coach Roy Williams. "We have done the necessary paperwork to do that."
Green has compiled 871 points and 412 rebounds in three seasons, averaging 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. He led the team as a junior in free throw percentage at .873 and was second in three-point field goals made with 56.
At 6-6, Green is an excellent shot blocker for his size, tallying 104 in his career, good for 10th on Carolina's all-time list.
Green is widely considered one of the best sixth men in the country and is known as much for his pre-game dancing as his highlight blocks and three-point shooting.
His best game of the season came against arch-rival Duke in Cameron Indoor Stadium, when he scored 18 points, pulled down eight rebounds and registered seven blocks.
Green will be able to gauge the interest of NBA teams by participating in the pre-draft camps, and will have until June 16th to withdraw his name and return to Carolina for his senior season.

I was really saddened to learn of Danny Green. Of course he will not make nearly the money if he would wait a year and he will really struggle and possibly be lost in the system - does anyone remember Joseph Forte, whose mother encouraged him to turn pro. After all this poor kid has been through with his dad in prison and now his dad is encouraging him to drop out of school just because he needs the money. Well, go to hell, Danny Green, Sr. Your son is a fine young man and will surely go high in the draft next year and get his college degree. How dare you do this to him. And we wonder why some kids become successful and others don't. Roy Williams has so much as told you Danny will not have a guaranteed contract. Your job, if you can think of someone other than yourself, is to encourage your son in the best direction for you. And my anger has nothing to do with Carolina losing another good player!!! I want better parents for these great kids!!!
"Keep in mind that anyone selected in the second round will be guaranteed a six digit salary for two years."
Stay one more year and then leave that six digits will become 7. I could stand the wait.
GLAD TO KNOW YOU'RE STILL MY PUPPET, MAD BUC.
MAD BUC IS NOW USING MY AVATAR AND ATTEMPTED TO USE MY SCREEN NAME. *** NOTICE THE MISSPELLING IN HIS AVATAR ****
The only ones from Duke that have Gone "pro" is Joe Alleva and Johnny Dawkins ...
