Carolina football recruit arrested on drug charges
Jun 18, 2008
Chapel Hill, N.C. — Jared McAdoo,17, a North Carolina football commit for the class of 2009, and the nation's 31st-ranked defensive tackle according to Scout.com, was arrested Monday morning on a felony charge of possessing a narcotic with intent to sell.
McAdoo was approached by a Chapel Hill police officer during the Project Graduation program at the UNC Student Union. He was allegedly trying to sell a prescription pain killer. The graduation party was supposed to be drug and alcohol free.
McAdoo was released into the custody of his father Arche McAdoo.
McAdoo, a 6-foot-3, 289-pound rising senior, was widely recruited, receiving offers from East Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia, South Carolina and others before committing to the Heels.
At the Scout.com Combine in Charlotte, McAdoo recorded a 5.06 forty-time, and a 5-flat on the short shuttle.
In 2007, as a junior, McAdoo recorded 59 tackles for the Tigers, including 20 tackles for a loss, and 13 sacks.
McAdoo was recruited for the Heels by John Blake and John Shoop.
North Carolina spokesman Kevin Best, citing NCAA rules that prohibit an institution from discussing a player that has not yet signed their national letter of intent to play for the school, said the school had no comment on McAdoo's situation.
According to Rivals.com, McAdoo is the 20th best defensive tackle in the country, and the fifth best pass rusher. The web site also ranks McAdoo as a four-star recruit.
The PAC-Six Conference named McAdoo to their 2007 All-Conference team as a junior.
McAdoo committed to play for Carolina in early March.
Chapel Hill went 8-6 in 2007, including 4-3 in the PAC-Six Conference. The Tigers return eight defensive starters, and while answering questions for the Chapel Hill team profile, head football coach Isaac Marsh told WRAL that the defense should be their strength in the fall.
McAdoo will appear in court on June 27.
According to the N.C. High School Athletic Association Handbook, any student-athlete that is convicted of a felony is ineligible to participate in high school athletics for the remainder of his high school career.

This is NOT a UNC only dilemma, you find it at Duke, NCSU, ECU, etc., etc. If you think it only happens at UNC, you're not living in the real world.

This type of activity, unfortunately, goes on all the time in middle schools, high schools, and colleges. Prescription drugs are the thing to sell/buy for kids these days. Especially popular with clean-cut, well-educated, middle-to-upper class students. You shouldn't assume that because someone is a highly recruited athlete, they are not held accountable and selling drugs is just something they do for fun. That's just ignorant.
An unfortunate event like this, and all the solid citizens come out... you wonderful people feel better now? Or are you still choking on your own bile? Here, here's some listerine for you to choke on.
Problem is even if UNC dumps him...someone will give him a ride..look at the Carolina Basketball recruit 3-4 years ago with a poss w' intent to sell and deliver...Carolina dumped him and another college quickly picked him up and put him on the court....Lesson Learned= NOTHING.
