Anyone who has ever picked up a glove or bat can relate in some way to the movie “Bull Durham.” And for that reason, it’s a sports movie that’s standing the test of time.
That test now stands at 20 years, a mark that will be celebrated Friday night when actor Kevin Costner and his band play at Durham Bulls Athletic Park (tickets are available at durhambulls.com or at the gate).
This week on WRAL, we’re taking a look at real-life “Bull Durham” moments. Each night at 6 p.m., from Tuesday through Thursday, we’ll explore how truth can be stranger than fiction.
From the long bus rides, to superstitions that would make even the paranoid among us raise an eyebrow, minor league baseball hasn’t changed that much since Ron Shelton wrote “Bull Durham.” And we have the stories to prove it.
There’s the case of the player who didn’t believe in voodoo. He may now.
Have you ever wished for rain? More than a few players have taken matters into their own hands.
And what do you do when everything’s going wrong? One word: fire.
Join us this week as we relive one of Hollywood’s best baseball movies by relating a few real-life stories.
