O'Brien doesn't name starter, Glennon will redshirt

N.C. State head coach Tom O’Brien announced on Monday afternoon that no decision has been made regarding a starting quarterback, but the field has been narrowed to just two candidates: senior Daniel Evans and redshirt freshman Russell Wilson.

That leaves out true freshman Mike Glennon, who will redshirt the season because of his inexperience, according to O’Brien.

“While he’s an exceptional talent, he’s just not ready to handle some of the situations, and that became apparent.” O’Brien said Monday. “We’ve gotten together and talked about it and he’s fine with that.”

O’Brien said it was possible that the two finalists will both see playing time in the season opener next Thursday at South Carolina.

“We’ve been in these situations [at Boston College] and we’ve put the other guy in the game some time in the second quarter just to get the starter out because he was new," O'Brien said. "But it depends on who it is. If it’s Russell Wilson maybe we’ll take him out and put Evans in just so he can settle down and look at the defense.”

Evans started eight games last season and completed 57.2 percent of his throws for 2,030 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had was intercepted 12 times. For his career, he has 24 interceptions and 17 touchdown passes. Evans had offseason shoulder surgery and said earlier in camp that his arm was now completely healthy.

Wilson, an infielder for the Wolfpack baseball team, is only 5 feet 11 but throws the ball with zip and is much more mobile than Evans.

In addition to the quarterback battle, State still has seven starting positions to fill. However, O’Brien announced that Junior Jamelle Eugene will be the starter at running back, with Senior Andre Brown as the backup.

O’Brien said the starting decisions for all positions will be made when the Wolfpack exchanges depth charts with Gamecocks. That is likely to happen by this weekend.

actually, i am not sure how "Carolina" fans keep calling themselves that...it's not entirely clear to me WHICH state you are talking about (North or South) nor the actual school you purportedly are rooting for (Asheville, Charlotte, Pembroke, Chapel Hole, Greensboro etc. there's more)

wellun-educated just made a typo and put that 'c' in there. I think you should have some grades adjusted though. I am not sure you can compare students in engineering programs to students who are in sewing classes at UNC. Didn't u see that quilt the UNC women's soccer team has been working on, they got an 'A' on it.
