N.C. State’s sideline shuffle has continued into Week Three as injuries have continued to plague the Wolfpack, but senior Andre Brown said depth would not be an issue when State faces Clemson in Death Valley Saturday at noon.
“We feel good [about our depth],” Brown said. “The next guy just steps up and we keep moving. It’s a good opportunity for someone else to come in and make plays.”
Brown is no stranger to playmaking opportunities due to injury, as junior running back Jamelle Eugene’s ankle injury before the season opener landed him in the starting job. Brown has averaged 3.8 yards per carry over two games while sharing time with sophomore Curtis Underwood Jr.
With Eugene’s status still in question Brown mentioned one returning player who would help the running game _ the team’s starting quarterback.
“Russell [Wilson]’s back and that’s a good thing,” Brown said. “[He] is a good dual-threat quarterback and him throwing the ball and running a little bit will help us.”
Brown also hinted that the redshirt freshman’s presence under center will allow the team to get back to the offensive strategy that began in the first half of the South Carolina game.
“We’re going to do a little option,” Brown said. “I look forward to him being back and giving us another threat in the shotgun spread.”
But in Death Valley against the Tigers, Brown said the game wouldn’t be decided based solely on Xs and Os.
“It’s a big game,” Brown said. “They’re in our division and in our conference, so we feel like it counts twice and if we go down there and get a win, [it will] set the tone on our side of the conference and let the other teams know we’re something to be dealt with.”
