SB: Pack Softball Shuts Out George Mason In Road Contest

Highlighted by two home runs and Peyton Silverman’s complete game shutout, the NC State softball team defeated George Mason, 4-0, on Tuesday evening at the George Mason Softball Complex in Fairfax, Va.
The Wolfpack improves to 6-15 while the Patriots move to 1-11 on the season.
-Both teams were kept at bay in the first three innings, and NC State recorded its ninth double play of the season in the second inning (2b to ss to 1b).
-The Pack struck first in the game as freshman Haylee Kobziak hit a two-run homer down the left field line in the fourth inning.
-NC State added two more runs in the fifth as Macauley Prickett led off the frame with a home run inside the park down the left side. Tyler Ross plated the other run as she singled to the shortstop, stole second and third and scored on an error by the catcher.
-Freshman pitcher Silverman earned the first complete game shutout of her career as she struck out five batters, giving her 51 on the season. The last time this was accomplished by a Wolfpack pitcher was against USC Upstate on March 30, 2016.
-Ross stole a total of three bases in the game, which is the second-highest mark in her career for a single game. She now holds 10 on the season and 47 in her career.
-Ross and Prickett led the team in batting as they were both 2-for-3 at the plate. Jade Caraway additionally collected two hits in her four trips to the plate.
NC State will return to action Friday as it hosts Syracuse in the first of a three-game series. First pitch for the Pack's ACC opener is 5 p.m.
