Simpson misses cut at Augusta after Friday 75

Raleigh native Webb Simpson missed the cut at the Masters for the second consecutive year Friday after shooting a second-round 75.
Simpson tallied five birdies Friday, but he also recorded six bogeys and a double bogey a day after shooting an up-and-down 74.
Simpson, a Broughton High School graduate, finished 44th in his Masters debut in 2012, and he entered the weekend at Augusta 25th in the world and ninth in the FedEx Cup standings.
The sporadic performance at Augusta could be tied to changes in Simpson's swing and approach during hist fourth PGA season. He has taken a play-in approach rather than a practice-in routine.
Last week in Texas, he opened with a 4-under 68 but then retreated with two rounds of 73 followed by a 77 on Sunday.
So far in 2014, Simpson’s best finish was a tie for third in the Tournament of Champions in early January at Maui.
His last three outings ended in the tie for 61st at the Shell, a missed cut in the mid-March Valspar in Florida and a tie for 47th in the early-March Cadillac in Florida.
