Sirk suffers ruptured Achilles tendon

Posted April 10, 2013

Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced that redshirt freshman quarterback Thomas Sirk underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. Sirk suffered the injury during the teamโ€™s practice on Wednesday morning.

The procedure was performed by Dr. Claude T. Moorman III, Dukeโ€™s head team physician and the director of Duke Sports Medicine.

No timetable has been set for Sirkโ€™s return.

A 6-4, 215-pound native of Glen St. Mary, Fla., Sirk enrolled at Duke in January, 2012 and did not see game action last season as the Blue Devils went 6-7 and participated in the Belk Bowl.

Duke concludes spring drills on Saturday afternoon with the annual Spring Game. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium.

Awful news. I hope surgery goes well and the rehabilitation brings his achilles back to 100%.
