MLS Game Summary - Chicago at New England

(Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: New England 2, Chicago 0

Foxborough, MA (Sports Network) - The New England Revolution found the back of the net twice in the second half on Saturday to come away with a comfortable 2-0 result over the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.

Both teams struggled to find good scoring opportunities in the first half, but the best chance for either side came for the Revs in first half stoppage time with a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Chris Tierney lined up the kick but blasted it off the wall and the rivals went into the locker room scoreless.

After the break, the home side found the first goal of the match in the 54th minute when Juan Agudelo ran onto a nice long ball over the top from Tierney, and used a deft half-volley to send it over the head of Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson and into the net.

Chicago pushed forward for an equalizer late on, but were burned on the counter attack in stoppage time as Saer Sene ripped a shot that was stopped by Johnson but Kelyn Rowe was there to tap it home for his third goal of the season.

The result sees the Revs inch closer to a playoff spot with 33 points, while Chicago remains on 31 points from 23 matches.
