MLS Game Summary - Real Salt Lake at Houston

(Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Houston 1, Real Salt Lake 0

Houston, TX (Sports Network) - A pair of goalkeepers stole the show at BBVA Compass Stadium on Thursday, but Colin Clark hammered home a late penalty kick to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake.

Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando and Houston's Tally Hall produced several key saves in the final 15 minutes of the match, but it was Clark's penalty deep into second-half stoppage time that was the difference.

Houston (12-7-9) snaps its four-game winless run to move back into third place in the Eastern Conference with 45 points on the season. Real Salt Lake (14-11-4) has won just once in its last five games to remain second in the West on 46 points, seven points shy of the first-place San Jose Earthquakes.

Scoring chances were at a premium until the 75th minute when Houston was awarded a penalty kick. Will Bruin drew the foul when Chris Schuler barged into his back, but Brad Davis was unable to take advantage of the ensuing attempt as Rimando parried the shot away.

At the other end, Hall answered with a superb save of his own, denying Ned Grabavoy with a sprawling stop from off of a corner kick.

The home side continued to apply pressure, but Rimando stood tall to deny Bruin's header at the back post with a brilliant reaction save in the 82nd minute.

Grabavoy had a great opportunity to put the visitors in front when he broke free on Hall with two minutes to go, but the Dynamo 'keeper produced a fine save to stone the Real Salt Lake defender.

But there was late drama to be had as Rimando barreled into the back of Macoumba Kandji in the second minute of stoppage time. Referee Ismail Elfath pointed to the spot for the second time on the night and Clark made no mistake, uncorking a shot that left the Salt Lake 'keeper no chance at a save.
