TFC, New England set for crucial clash at BMO Field

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Two sides in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff hunt will meet in a crucial match at BMO Field on Saturday as Toronto FC will play host to the New England Revolution.

New England enters the weekend on 30 points, one point back of the final playoff spot in the East.

Toronto, meanwhile, is on 33 points, good enough to put the Canadian side in third place.

The Revs appear to be beyond a horrid losing streak as the club has taken seven points from its last four league games.

"We went through a tough little stretch but we knew we had the quality here to turn it around," said midfielder Lee Nguyen. "We had that little spell last season but it was more towards earlier in the season. We did well at the beginning to give us a little cushion and now I think we know it's getting a little tight, close to playoffs. Every game's going to count going here on forward."

New England earned a 1-0 victory at Chivas USA last time out with the lone goal coming from Nguyen in the 56th minute. It was his ninth goal of the campaign and his head coach was full of praise after the contest.

"To me, he's just playing great," Jay Heaps said after the match. "I think tonight he found good pockets. When he gets it off his foot the first time and he finds a second ball ... When he does that, the game is his."

Toronto has also taken seven points from its last four games, most recently surrendering a late equalizer to settle for a point from a 2-2 draw with the Chicago Fire.

"That second goal was horrendous to tell you the truth," TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen after the game. "We've got to have a desire when an opposition player gets down to the endline we've got to have midfielders right on top of our backline defending our box.

"We were spectators ... we weren't in the right spots and we had guys just watching in comfortable positions. When you put yourself out of the arena to affect the game, things like this happen."

One bright spot for Toronto was the play of striker Luke Moore, who came off the substitutes' bench and recorded his fourth assist of the season, all of which have come over the club's last seven matches.
