Le Toux helps Union double up 'Quakes

Chester, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Sebastien Le Toux netted a first-half goal and added three assists on Sunday as the Philadelphia Union earned a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at PPL Park.

Andrew Wenger opened the scoring for Philadelphia after 10 minutes and added a second goal in the 79th minute, while Le Toux netted in the 14th minute and defender Sheanon Williams found the back of the net with a glancing header in the 72nd minute, helping the Union improve to 30 points on the season and remain in the thick of the playoff race.

San Jose rallied from a 2-0 deficit with second-half goals from Sam Cronin and Chris Wondolowski, but weary legs from a midweek game in Seattle showed late on as the Quakes remain eighth in the West with 25 points.

Wenger opened the flood gates for the Union in the 10th minute after he got on the end of a nice ball from Le Toux and ripped it into the top right corner, leaving 'Quakes goalkeeper Jon Busch with no chance for a save.

Four minutes later the Union doubled their lead as Williams whipped a cross into the box that Conor Casey got his head on. The second ball fell to the feet of Le Toux and he smashed it home on the volley with pace.

The Quakes pulled one back in the 59th minute as Sam Cronin ripped an absolute rocket into the top right corner on the half-volley past new Union goalkeeper Rais M'Bolhi.

Wondolowski then equalized for the visitors 20 minutes from time with an exceptional strike following a Shea Salinas cross, but Philadelphia responded with a third goal from Williams two minutes later.

Wenger then put the exclamation point on an excellent performance from the home side when he collected the ball just past the halfway line, drove down the center of the field and fired it past Busch to wrap up an important three points for Philadelphia.
