MLS Game Summary - Columbus at Chicago

(Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Columbus 1, Chicago 1

Bridgeview, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Fire earned another draw on Saturday at Toyota Park as the club finished in a 1-1 deadlock with the Columbus Crew after a goal from Federico Higuain early in the second half.

Mike Magee's first-half penalty kick had Chicago in front, but Higuain scored in the opening minute of the second half to snatch a point for his side, leaving the Fire with just one win in their last 11 games.

The biggest moment of the first half came in the 36th minute when Chicago's Grant Ward attempted a cross that struck the arm of Crew defender Tyson Wahl inside his own penalty area.

Magee then stepped to the spot and drove the ball to the right of goalkeeper Steve Clark, putting the home side ahead 1-0 at halftime.

But that lead didn't last too long as the Crew scored just 15 seconds after the second-half kickoff with Ethan Finlay playing a ball over the top that Higuain brought down before slotting a shot past goalkeeper Sean Johnson.

The Fire netminder then produced two fine saves to keep his side level as he kept out a first-time volley from Ben Speas with his legs before denying a close-range effort from Finlay, who was picked out six yards from goal by a pass from Michael Parkhurst.

With just three wins all season, a winner in the closing stages of the game would have been huge for Chicago, but after Quincy Amarikwa got free from his defender and dropped off a pass to Magee at the top of the box, the former Galaxy forward rolled his shot just wide of the right post.
