Kansas City, KS (Sports Network) - Kei Kamara experienced a full range of emotions at Livestrong Sporting Park on Sunday, scoring at both ends of the pitch in his side's 1-1 draw with Red Bull New York.
The Sporting striker got his side off to a dream start when he caught the Red Bulls defense napping in the fourth minute, heading a bouncing ball into the empty after Bill Gaudette had rushed prematurely from his line.
But that goal was canceled out in the 28th minute when Kamara's failed clearance from the six-yard box was headed into his own goal.
Kamara nearly made amends with 10 minutes left when his first-time shot from a set piece, laid off by Graham Zusi, whistled inches wide of the post.
But the best chance to break the deadlock was reserved for the visitors as Sebastien Le Toux broke free in second-half stoppage time. Chance Myers was able to track back in time to slow Le Toux's surging run, but the Frenchman picked out Dax McCarty with a well-placed through ball. McCarty's first touch let him down though, as Jimmy Nielsen was able to collect the ball and avoid danger.
The top of the Eastern Conference table remains unchanged as Sporting (14-7-5) stays on top with 47 points, followed closely by New York (13-7-6) with 45 points.
Hoping their baseball success will translate to titles in another sport, the Yankees are combining with English power Manchester City to own a Major League Soccer expansion team in New York that will start play in 2015.
