Dwyer's double powers SKC past TFC

Kansas City, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Dom Dwyer continued his scoring tear on Saturday, scoring twice from the spot to lead Sporting Kansas City to a 4-1 defeat of Toronto FC at Sporting Park.

Dwyer, who has netted 16 goals this season to climb into sole possession of second place in the MLS scoring chart, broke the deadlock in the 18th minute after Jackson committed a foul on Benny Feilhaber in the penalty area, allowing the Sporting striker to convert the ensuing spot attempt.

Sporting's advantage was doubled in the 33rd minute following Doneil Henry's foul on Dwyer in the box, which allowed the 24-year-old to add to his season scoring haul by firing a shot past Joe Bendik from the spot.

Kansas City appeared to be in cruise control, but Toronto managed to pull one back just before halftime when Gilberto tucked home Dominic Oduro's low cross with a nifty finish past Joe Kempin.

But the hosts made sure of the victory by scoring two second-half goals in the span of 13 minutes.

Soony Saad restored Sporting's two-goal lead in the 64th minute by rifling home a shot from distance while C.J. Sapong made it four in the 77th minute by getting on the end of Saad's flick and directing a the ball into the back of the net from close range.

Sporting (12-6-6) sees its lead atop the Eastern Conference grow to five points as it improves to 42 points on the season, 10 points better than Toronto (9-8-5).
