MLS Game Summary - Philadelphia at Montreal

(Saturday, April 26, 2014)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Montreal 1, Philadelphia 0

Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - Felipe Martins produced the lone goal at the Stade Saputo on Saturday, giving the Montreal Impact their first win of the season with a 1-0 defeat of the Philadelphia Union.

Frank Klopas was winless through his first seven games in charge of Montreal as his Impact side managed to take just three points from the early run-in, keeping the club at the foot of the Eastern Conference.

But the hosts got off on the right foot on Saturday as Martins broke the deadlock in the 14th minute of play.

Patrice Bernier unleashed a shot on goal from distance that was stopped but ultimately fumbled by Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath. Martins was arriving to tuck home an uncontested rebound for his second goal of the campaign.

It proved to be all Montreal would need to collect all three points as Troy Perkins kept a clean sheet for the first time this year.

Montreal (1-4-3) climbs to six points to move to go level with the Chicago Fire.

Philadelphia (1-3-5) is winless in its last seven outings.
