Magee's PK lifts Fire over TFC

Bridgeview, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Fire moved into a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference on Saturday as Mike Magee's second-half penalty kick was the difference in a 1-0 win over Toronto FC at Toyota Park.

The Fire endured a frustrating first half that saw few clear-cut chances, but Magee's goal in the 64th minute helped the Fire to a third successive win and gives the team a chance to clinch a playoff spot next weekend at Red Bull New York.

Juan Luis Anangono was the most dangerous player for either team and he nearly put the Fire in front in the 32nd minute with a shot that forced Toronto goalkeeper Stefan Frei into a quality save.

Magee's low cross early in the second half struck the near post, but he helped the Fire break the deadlock in the 64th minute when his free kick struck the hand of TFC's Jonathan Osorio inside the area.

The former Galaxy forward calmly converted his penalty kick to put Chicago into the lead, however Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson had to be alert to keep out a chance for Toronto's Alvaro Rey.

Substitute Andrew Wiedeman went close with a header for the visitors a few minutes later as Chicago survived the scare and had two chances in the last 10 minutes to extend its lead, only for Anangono to be denied by the woodwork on two separate occasions.
