MLS Game Summary - Seattle at Portland

(Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Seattle 1, Portland 1

Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Seattle Sounders FC and the Portland Timbers traded second-half goals at Jeld-Wen Field on Saturday, playing to a 1-1 draw in the latest installment of the Cascadia Cup.

Fredy Montero put the Sounders in front with a superb strike from distance, but Rodney Wallace equalized to earn the Timbers a share of the spoils.

The draw leaves Portland (7-14-7) atop the Cascadia Cup table with eight points through four games. Seattle (13-6-9) sits second on five points as Vancouver Whitecaps FC bottoms the table on two points. Each team has two more Cascadia Cup matches slated for the regular season, leaving the title completely up for grabs.

Portland's Donovan Ricketts was knocked out of the game in the 57th minute following a collision with Eddie Johnson. Joe Bendik came on to replace the Jamaican in goal, but he was left no chance at stopping Montero's sensational volley on the turn just seconds after his introduction.

Seattle remained in front until the 78th minute when a corner kick delivery from Jack Jewsbury was nodded home by Wallace for his first goal of the season.

The Timbers came within inches of stealing all three points when Bright Dike struck the post in stoppage time, but the Sounders defense was relieved to see the ball bounce back into play.
