MLS Game Summary - Philadelphia at Montreal

(Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Montreal 2, Philadelphia 0

Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Felipe Martins scored a side scissor-kick late in the second half with both sides down to 10 men and the Montreal Impact beat the Philadelphia Union, 2-0, on Saturday at the Stade Saputo in MLS.

Andrew Wenger also scored for Montreal, which won its fifth straight home game - an impressive streak for an expansion squad.

The win was overshadowed by Impact defender Nelson Rivas, who connected with a vicious head butt to Union forward Antoine Hoppenot in the second half. Rivas, as well as Union forward Jack McInerney, were sent off during the scrum.

Rivas drilled Hoppenot in the face in the 69th minute and McInerney received a red card when he bumped into Rivas following the ridiculous foul.

Montreal (9-13-3) already led at the time of the incident, as Wenger scored in before half, and Martins secured the win when he lined up a cross from Hassoun Camara and connected on the beautiful goal from 16 yards to the right post.

The Impact improved to 8-3-2 at home and climbed to sixth place in the Eastern Conference. The Union (7-11-2) lost for the second time in their last three to remain in eighth in the East table.

Montreal will try to take its home-form on the road Aug. 11 at New England for its next match. Philadelphia hosts the Chicago Fire on Aug. 12.
