Cummings does it again as Dynamo stun RBNY to reach East finals

Harrison, NJ (SportsNetwork.com) - Omar Cummings played the hero for the second consecutive match as his goal late in the first period of extra time stood up as the winner on Wednesday, sending the Houston Dynamo to the Eastern Conference finals with a 2-1 second leg and 4-3 aggregate victory over Red Bull New York.

Houston fell behind by a pair of goals at BBVA Compass Stadium last Sunday before Cummings goal in stoppage time saved a 2-2 draw for the club, and the former MLS Cup champion did it again in dramatic fashion at Red Bull Arena.

New York, the East top seed and Supporters' Shield winners were on the front foot early on and struck for the first goal of the night in the 23rd minute as Lloyd Sam swung a nice cross into the penalty area that was spilled by Houston goalkeeper Tally Hall and Bradley Wright-Phillips was there to tap it home.

But the resilient Dynamo equalized 12 minutes later through some good fortune as Red Bulls defender Ibrahim Sekagya gave the ball away with a poor pass that was intercepted in the box by Brad Davis, who ripped it past NY goalkeeper Luis Robles.

The Red Bulls had much more of the ball in the second half as the pressed looking for a winner, but they couldn't manage it in regulation time and it cost them in the first extra period when Kofi Sarkodie whipped a ball into the box that was headed on by Cam Weaver and it fell to Cummings at the near post.

New York had one final golden opportunity with free kick from just outside the area in the final few minutes. Theirry Henry lined up his strike, but smashed it well over the ball and the Dynamo held on for the stunning victory.

Houston advances to its third consecutive Eastern Conference finals with the result and will face Sporting Kansas City on Saturday.
