MLS Game Summary - Philadelphia at Columbus

(Saturday, March 22, 2014)

From The Sports Network

Final Score: Columbus 2, Philadelphia 1

Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Bernardo Anor netted a first-half brace on Saturday as the Columbus Crew held on for a nervy 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union at Crew Stadium.

After dismantling D.C. United in their season opener on March 8, the Crew had the better of the play in their home opener early on and jumped on top in the 24th minute when Federico Higuain lofted a corner kick into the area that was nodded home by an unmarked Anor.

The hosts doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time when Anor's rocket from well outside the penalty area beat Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath to the left post.

Philadelphia got one back in the 62nd minute when Sebastien Le Toux got free down the left flank and sent a low cross into the box that was pounded home by substitute Leo Fernandes.

Energized by the goal, Philadelphia had the better of the opportunities in the second half and threw numbers forward in the final 10 minutes, but the visitors' finishing was just a tad off all night as the Crew came away with all three points.
